MAX Field Hockey recognizes the Top 40 players from each region that we expect big things from in the 2026 High School season (top 50 for PA).

Preseason Regional Players to Watch

• Automatic Rollovers: Any returning player who earned 2025 MAX Field Hockey First or Second Team All-Region honors automatically secures a spot on the 2026 Preseason Players to Watch list. No new nomination is required for these athletes.
• Direct High School Coach Consultation: We actively reach out to high school head coaches across the country to gather internal insights and verify exactly who they rank as their premier, impact returners for the upcoming season.
• Preseason Regional Team Rankings: Individual talent often drives team success. We cross-reference our selections with the MAX Field Hockey Preseason Regional Team Rankings to ensure that the top-ranked programs in each region are fairly and accurately represented by their impact players.
• MAX Field Hockey Player Rankings: We thoroughly evaluate all players currently featured in the MAX Field Hockey National Player Rankings (Top 100, Next 50, and Watch Lists) for the classes of 2027, 2028, and 2029.
• National Pipeline Recognition: Players currently selected to USA Field Hockey Junior National Teams (U21, U18, U16) are deeply vetted for inclusion.
  • A Note on Pipeline Credentials vs. High School Impact: While we heavily track outside competition—including USA Field Hockey events, club showcases, and national player rankings—we recognize that the high school game is fundamentally different. An athlete who thrives in a club or national team environment is not automatically the player who will lead, dominate, or stand out within their specific high school team setting. Different environments call for different leadership and styles of play. Because of this, we place immense trust in high school coaches and rely heavily on their recommendations to tell us who truly drives their varsity program’s success.
• Open Coach & Expert Nominations: We actively accept and heavily weigh submissions from high school head coaches, club coaches, and regional experts.  Nominations are highly encouraged but not strictly required. MAX Field Hockey conducts independent year-round tracking of the top players across all High School classes to ensure the list captures the nation’s definitive game-changers.

• The Extended Tracking List: While we limit the published Preseason Watch List to the Top 40 players per region (Top 50 in PA), our internal tracking list is much longer. We actively monitor hundreds of additional impact players across the country throughout the fall, including those who were nominated for this award but not selected for the final published list. Every single nomination we receive is kept on file and watched closely as the season progresses.
• Postseason Eligibility: Being named to this preseason list is a major honor, but it is not a prerequisite for postseason awards. Every single high school player has a clean slate once the whistle blows. Deserving athletes who have a breakout season can absolutely earn MAX Field Hockey All-Region and All-American honors at the end of the year, regardless of whether they were on the Preseason Watch List.
