Each spring Wake Forest University’s coaching staff and team lead 140 boys and girls in an 8-week youth development program called “Weed Whackers.” The program was started 12 years ago by Head Coach Jen Averill and has sky rocketed into one of the hottest tickets in town. The 140 spots have filled up within 48 hours of registration being open the last 2 years! The program is a FREE fun and interactive program intended for youth ages 4-12 years (Pre-K through 6th grade), and is designed to introduce boys and girls to the sport of Field Hockey and team play. Check out this video done by senior and 2016 team captain Heather Wiley to see how much of a win-win this program is for the kids, the wake players, and all involved.
