In the 4th battle of the season for Virginia Beach rivals and powerhouses Frank W. Cox and First Colonial, it was Frank W. Cox who would come out on top by a score of 2-1 to secure the VHSL Group 6A State Championship and the #1 spot on MAX Field Hockey’s Final 2016 Mid-Atlantic Region Rankings. First Colonial had won out the previous three match-ups- during regular season play (5-1), the Coastal Conference Tournament (2-1) and Group 6A South Final (3-2 OT), but Julie Swain’s Cox squad would have the last say on a Mid-Atlantic Preseason Player of the Year and Duke-commit Leah Crouse goal with 20 minutes to play to capture the Falcon’s record 19th state title. First Colonial finishes the 2016 season at the #2 spot. [View complete Postseason breakdown and brackets by state]
