LILY POSTERNAK
York High School
York, Maine
Senior – Midfield
Miss Maine Field Hockey 2016 capped off her playing career leading the York Wildcats to their third straight Maine Class B State Championship and a final MAX Field Hockey New England Region ranking of #5. During her 4-year career, Posternak finished with a 71-1 overall record (the lone loss coming in the state championship game her freshmen year) and with a school record 88 goals and 57 assists (tallying 33 goals and 15 assists in her senior season). The Duke-commit and Team USA U19 National Team member accrued just about every local and state award possible throughout her high school career, as well as MAX Field Hockey All-Region awards back to her sophomore season, which was the first season we began covering the High School game.
FUSINE GOVAERT
Rye High School
Rye, New York
Senior – Midfield
Rye High School certainly lucked out when Holland-born Fusine Govaert came to the states and joined the Garnets. The senior and Northeast Region Preseason Player of the Year finished her 4-year playing career this Fall with 133 goals and 66 assists (tallying 41 goals and 13 assists this season). Govaert led Rye to 4 straight New York State Section 1 Class B championship games and if it weren’t for the dominant Lakeland High School being in their section, they would have made some runs deep into the state tournament with her in the midfield. Her senior campaign included her 100th career goal and Harrow/NFHCA 1st Team All-American recognition as well as every possible state and local award, including being named the Journal News Westchester/Putnam Player of the Year.
MEREDITH SHOLDER
Emmaus High School
Emmaus, Pennsylvania
Senior – Forward
The 2016 Preseason National Player of the Year did not disappoint. Sholder delivered in her senior year, tallying her 200th career goal en route to securing back-to-back Pennsylvania AAA State Championships for #1 ranked Emmaus in the top field hockey conference in the nation. The repeat First Team Harrow/NFHCA All-American finishes her career with 216 goals and 134 assists as a member of an elite group. Only four other players in the history of the game have ever tallied 200 goals, and similarly only four other players have ever tallied 100 career assists. The UNC-bound senior capped off her dominant career with a fourth straight Eastern Pennsylvania Conference MVP honor. This is Sholder’s second straight PA/NJ Regional Player of the Year recognition.
PEYTON TOLLAKSEN
Great Bridge High School
Chesapeake, Virginia
Junior – Midfield
The only junior of our five honorees, Tollaksen had an impressive season leading Great Bridge to a perfect 22-0 finish and it’s first ever 4A State Championship. The Virginia-committed midfielder claimed just about every local and state Player of the Year recognition along the way. She was named the Conference 17, 4A East Region, All-Tidewater and Virginia State Group 4A Player of the Year. Her final stats for the season include 53 goals and 17 assists, as well as some clutch goals when the Wildcats needed them most to advance in the state tournament.
MEGAN RODGERS
Serra High School
San Diego, California
Senior – Forward
The West/Mid-West Region Preseason Player of the Year continued her dominance on the west coast this Fall. Rodgers once again broke the San Diego section scoring record (a record of 60 she set last year). The Cal-bound senior tallied 81 goals en route to earning San Diego Section Player of the Year honors and leading her Conquistadors to a perfect 27-0 finish, final National Ranking of #5 and an Open Division Championship. Rodgers finishes her career with 167 career goals and with back-to-back West/Mid-West Regional Player of the Year honors.
