Serra High School in San Diego finishes the 2016 season right where it began, at the #1 spot on MAX Field Hockey’s West/Mid-West Region Rankings. The Conquistadors were unstoppable this Fall, finishing at a perfect 27-0, outscoring opponents 227-5, and capturing their 22nd San Diego Section Championship. The region’s Preseason Player of the Year Megan Rodgers played a large role in that success, scoring a record 81 of those goals (and that includes not playing much in the second half of games). Coming in at the #2 spot is Assumption High School out of Louisville. The Rockets captured their second KHSAA State Championship with a 1-0 overtime win over DuPont Manual on a goal by freshman Lee Ann Gordon. Debbie Judd’s squad finished the season 23-4-1 and posted victories over 5 Top 20 teams this Fall. Three of their four losses were to the top 3 teams from the Mid-Atlantic region on a trip to Virginia Beach. [View complete postseason breakdown and brackets by state]
