Kudos to College Connection for maintaining their commitment to put on a safe, high level event that showcases young field hockey talent. After the pandemic and facility restrictions forced them to cancel their College Connection Showcases at University of Maryland and University of Massachusetts- one showcase was created at Austin Prep in Reading, Massachusetts this past weekend in which 153 athletes participated. A complete “Playbook” was created and implemented to ensure the health and safety of event participants and all involved. The 5th annual Under Armor Select Game followed where the top 52 participants from the showcase were selected (via a “Golden Ticket”) to participate in one of two games. Game #1 was a showdown between USA and Canada and Game #2 was a showdown between England and Germany. Each game was comprised of six 12 minute periods with a Goalie Showcase in between. The games were competitive and well-matched, with back and forth action. Canada edged out USA 6-5 in Game #1 and Team England and Germany ended in a 1-1 tie. Upon the conclusion of the games, an Awards Ceremony was held in which the Player of the Game and Young Player of the Game were recognized. Congratulations to Tyler Everslage (2023, KY- Assumption High School/IFHCK) for being named the Player of the Game and Ava Murphy (2024, MA- Rivers School/Northeast Elite) for being named the Young Player of the Game.
