We have some changes at the top of this week’s Northeast Region Top 20 Rankings. Lakeland holds strong at the #1 spot at a perfect 16-0-0. Ward Melville gets the nod up to the #2 spot as they sit at a perfect 15-0-0, outscoring opponents 67-12 behind the play of the reigning Long Island Player of the Year, Kerri Thornton. The other big news this week was the performance of Rhode Island powerhouse Moses Brown hosting New England Region powerhouse Walpole (the reigning Massachusetts Division I State Champions) and beating them 7-2. The Rhode Island schools get a major bump up in this week’s poll, with 16-1-1 Barrington moving up to #4, Moses Brown (12-1-1) moving up to #7, and East Greenwich (10-3-1) joining the top 20 at #19.
The Connecticut schools continue to knock one another off, which is making ranking them very difficult! Not much changed this week despite some losses suffered, but we will be looking closely this week to see if the trends continue. The strength of schedule of these top teams (mostly FCIAC teams) has been making for some ups and downs and no clear standout at the top. #12 Enfield is a team on our radar at 11-0-0, but we need to see them face off against some top competition before we give them the nod ahead of Greenwich, Darien or Norwalk.
