New York powerhouses and unbeatens Lakeland and Shenendehowa finish at the top of MAX Field Hockey’s Final 2016 Northeast Region Rankings, right where they have been for much of the season, after capturing the New York State public school Class B and Class A State Championships. Sound familiar? The two programs share some striking resemblances with Massachusetts public schools and the New England #1 and #2 ranked teams, Watertown and Walpole. For Lakeland, this was the Hornets 8th straight state title. Cameron Lischinsky scored the game-winner with 5 minutes to play in the first half to get the 1-0 win over Section VIII powerhouse Garden City. This was the 4th straight year Lakeland has knocked off Diane Chapman’s Garden City squad in the final. For Shenendehowa, two first half goals by Carli Pelletier and Kelly Buckley would be enough to earn the 2-1 win over Section 1’s Scarsdale, earning the Plainsmen their 2nd state title in 4 years and their first ever undefeated season.
