MAX Field Hockey is excited to announce that Meredith Sholder (Emmaus High School, PA) has been named the 2016 National High School Player of the Year and Paula Doughty (Skowhegan Area High School, ME) has been named the 2016 National High School Coach of the Year. Sholder and Doughty were selected from the five Regional Players and Coaches of the Year (view below) for their outstanding and historical performances during the 2016 High School season.

Emmaus High School (Emmaus, PA)
Senior – Forward
The 2016 Preseason National Player of the Year did not disappoint. Sholder delivered in her senior year, tallying her 200th career goal en route to securing back-to-back Pennsylvania AAA State Championships for #1 ranked Emmaus in the top field hockey conference in the nation. The repeat First Team Harrow/NFHCA All-American finishes her career with 216 goals and 134 assists as a member of an elite group. Only four other players in the history of the game have ever tallied 200 goals, and similarly only four other players have ever tallied 100 career assists. The UNC-bound senior capped off her dominant career with a fourth straight Eastern Pennsylvania Conference MVP honor. Sholder earned back-to-back PA/NJ Regional Player of the Year recognitions as well.

2016 NATIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR
PAULA DOUGHTY
Skowhegan Area High School (Skowhegan, ME)
Skowhegan’s long-time leader reached a historical milestone this Fall- Paula Doughty coached her 500th win, becoming the only field hockey coach in the state of Maine to do so. The Portland Press Herald had a great article on her 500th victory and the history of the Skowhegan program [Click here to Read Article]. Not only did Doughty reach win #500, she also led the Indians to their 17th state title and a final New England Region ranking of #7. The championship was the program’s 14th in the last 16 years. Doughty is now 504-88-19 and the all-time winningest field hockey coach in the state.
