#1 ranked Agnes Irwin School (Bryn Mawr, PA) captured its first Inter-Ac field hockey championship since 1993 by defeating rivals #2 Academy of Notre Dame de Namur (Villanova, PA) 4-2 in a battle between the nation’s top two teams. After falling behind in the opening minute, the Owls answered with three consecutive goals—including the equalizer from Lucy Jones—while senior captain Gabby Lee sealed the historic victory with a critical insurance goal in the second half. Junior goalkeeper Lily Hark anchored the championship defense with a season-high 13 saves to preserve the win against a ferocious third-quarter push from the Irish.
The triumph completed a regular-season sweep for the nation’s top-ranked Owls, who previously defended their No. 1 ranking with a decisive 5-2 victory over the Irish on October 2. While Agnes Irwin currently holds the upper hand, this historic rivalry is likely far from over. As the top two seeds heading into November, both powerhouses are heavily favored to storm through the state brackets for an epic third meeting in the PAISAA State Championship game.
